Well, you can tell that I have found my passion and my life! I have an identity, I have friends, I'm in the best shape of my life and I love to instruct this program! By the age of 25, I weighed 235 pounds and was miserable. Zumba has always been my constant, the only exercise that I look forward to each and every time. I first started doing Zumba with Christina and the ZVibe family when it was first Zumbalicious a few years back J. I was pretty shy when I first started and the thought of the word “Destrosa” terrified me. The support that I receive from my ZVibe family and the members who attend the classes are fantastic. I would never have been able to do that, 2 years ago and I thank the ZVibe team for helping me along my wellness journey. He was impressed and so was I. Christina and the ZVibe team have created an amazing, energetic and fun workout. Zumba has allowed me to lose the weight and tone my body all at the same time. As humans, we should be careful of what we eat and I have formed that lifestyle for myself but it is what we do to keep active that makes the difference. In 2009 I had a revelation; my obesity was taking over my thoughts, my health, and my life. Over the course of 4 years, I was able to lose the weight and I have been able to maintain my weight loss for 4 years now. I am 63 years old and have been a yo-yo dieter all of my life. I have maintained that loss for one year and 4 months. My doctor agreed and so I started the requisite health education classes. Armed with the knowledge that these classes provided, i.e., eat more vegetables/fruits, drink more water, log my calories, get up and move, etc., I was able to lose over 78 pounds in the first six months alone! I was turning 50 in 2009 and decided that I wanted to get healthy. I reached Lifetime membership in 2008 and worked for the WW Company for four years. Now a grandma, I am delighted to have the energy and strength to care for my granddaughters and the satisfaction of slipping into size 10 jeans. Losing 178 pounds made it possible for me to enjoy my grandchildren more now that I have retired, and opened the world up for me. There is a lot of movement to it, and if you are actually working hard (and sweating), then you are burning off calories. I lost 40 pounds, but realized that I could never live my life eating cabbage and baked chicken alone. My weight loss did slow down and I realized that with proper dieting and exercising, I could begin to feel better about myself. I began walking on the weekends and taking Zumba classes four days a week. Walking on the treadmill could get very boring, but Zumba is fun and it makes me feel like I am getting a great workout since I burn a lot of calories and sweat! I have since gone back to the gym doing 45 minutes on the elliptical and light weightlifting. I know with the proper diet and daily exercising, I will make it there!
