Caffeine may slightly boost weight loss or prevent weight gain, but there's no sound evidence that increased caffeine consumption results in significant or permanent weight loss. Caffeine is found in many beverages, including coffee, tea, energy drinks and colas; in products containing cocoa or chocolate; and in a variety of medications and dietary supplements, including supplements aimed at weight loss. Although research about the connection between caffeine and weight isn't definitive, there are a few theories about how caffeine might affect weight, including: Caffeine may reduce your desire to eat for a brief time, but there's not enough evidence to show that long-term consumption aids weight loss. A low fiber diet may cause constipation which can lead to bloating, abdominal distention and weight retention. Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables can help increase your fiber intake and reduce excess water weight by relieving bloating from constipation. These good bacteria help regulate your GI system and may prevent or decrease side effects common with constipation. Keeping your GI system healthy and managing any constipation can help alleviate bloating, stomach cramps and abdominal distention. Limiting the amount of carbohydrate rich foods (both refined and 100% whole grains) you eat can help you drop a few extra pounds of water weight fairly fast. When you eat carbohydrates, your body uses some as immediate energy and transforms the rest into glycogen - the body's storage form of carbohydrate. This can cause weight gain and fluid retention. When the glycogen is used for energy, water is also released, causing a small decrease in your weight. There are many naturally occurring herbs that may help you lose excess water. These medications are designed to help decrease minor fluid retention and the symptoms that accompany it (bloating, puffiness or abdominal distention).
Researchers in Germany report that water consumption increases the rate at which people burn calories. Despite the fact that most diets call for drinking at least eight, 8-ounce glasses of water a day, few studies have been done to determine if the practice actually speeds weight loss . After drinking approximately 17 ounces of water, the subjects' metabolic rates - or the rate at which calories are burned - increased by 30% for both men and women. The increases occurred within 10 minutes of water consumption and reached a maximum after about 30 to 40 minutes. The study also showed that the increase in metabolic rate differed in men and women. The researchers estimate that over the course of a year, a person who increases his water consumption by 1.5 liters a day would burn an extra 17,400 calories, for a weight loss of approximately five pounds. They note that up to 40% of the increase in calorie burning is caused by the body's attempt to heat the ingested water. The findings are reported in the December issue of The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism . The researchers write that up to 70% of the increase in metabolism, "cannot be attributed to the heating of the ingested water," but exercise physiologist Daniel Moser, Ph D, tells Web MD that it is unclear from this small study if this is the case. "Obviously people are looking for ways to increase metabolism, but this is an very, very, small effect," she tells Web MD.
Evidence has already shown garlic is effective in preventing high blood pressure, treating diabetes, curing diarrhoea, lowering the risk of heart attacks and killing cancer cells. It destroyed the build-up of plaque in coronary arteries, reducing the symptoms of diabetes and bringing down blood pressure in rats which were fed a high-sugar diet for three weeks before been given allicin. The blood pressure and sugar metabolism of rats given allicin after the high sugar diet went back to normal within two weeks. That did not receive the garlic compound rocketed and remained high. The researchers were also amazed to see that none of the rats given allicin gained weight, and now want to conduct tests on obese rats to see whether allicin causes weight loss. I isolated each of the components in garlic and found the most effective component was allicin. In separate experiments, Dr Mirelman has found that garlic destroys cancer cells in the laboratory. Egyptian hieroglyphics record that garlic was given to the workers who built the pyramids to keep them strong and healthy.
There is science to suggest that the tropical oil may cause a slight (temporary) boost in your metabolism. But theoretically if you eat a 500-calorie meal and replace the fat from oils or butter with coconut oil, your metabolism will speed up and burn more like 15 percent, or 75 calories. The fatty acids in coconut oil (called medium-chain triacylglycerols, or MCT) are shorter and more water-soluble than those in other oils, such as olive or canola. In the study, 31 overweight men and women followed a low-calorie diet that included just over a tablespoon for women and just under two tablespoons for men each day of either an MCT oil or olive oil. The investigators suggested that the metabolic boost produced by the MCT oil likely played a role.
