At six months, people who took the full dose of Qnexa once daily lost nearly 10% of their body weight ; by one year, it was up to 10.4%. Those who took the medium dose of the pill lost 8% of their body weight at six months and 8.2% by one year. The people who took the lowest dose of the drug dropped about 5.1% of body weight at six months, and, on average, gained some back by one year.

This retrospective cohort study evaluated 3-year weight trajectory patterns in subjects aged 21–75 years and newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, as well as the patterns’ effects on A 1 C and blood pressure in year 4. The group with a higher stable weight (n = 418; 16.2%) and the group with a lower stable weight (n = 1,542; 59.9%) largely maintained their weights. In the three models, the likelihood of above-goal A 1 C remained significantly higher among the groups with higher stable weight, lower stable weight, and weight gain than in the weight-loss group. In the fully adjusted model 2, those with higher stable weight were 1.7 times more likely (95% CI 1.1–2.5) to have above-goal A 1 C than those in the weight-loss group, those with lower stable weight were 1.5 times more likely (1.1–2.1), and those with weight gain were 1.8 times more likely (1.2–2.7). In the fully adjusted model 2, those with higher stable weight were 1.8 times more likely (95% CI 1.3–2.6) than those in the weight-loss group to have above-goal blood pressure, and those with weight gain were 1.5 times more likely (1.1–2.1).
