Excess fat is often more about feelings than food, and for many of us the two are inextricably linked. If you are an emotional eater the chances are that you will sabotage your own efforts as the emotional pull to eat is just too strong to ignore. Diets rarely work because they don’t address the stress and emotional underpinnings that drive you to overeat , or to eat the wrong foods. If you want to shed your excess pounds and keep them off, fad diets are not the solution. Once you do that, the craving diminishes. You can place the actual food in front of you in order to intensify your craving. Ask yourself what was going on in your life when you began gaining weight, or in the months prior. Does it feel safe for you to lose the weight? What is the “critical voice” in the back of your head saying to you? What’s the feeling behind your thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors? The more specific you can be, the better. The nice thing is, once you’ve learned the tapping basics, it’s always there at your fingertips—whenever and wherever you need it. The first thing to understand is that you will be tapping with your fingers. Traditional EFT has you tapping with the fingertips of your index finger and middle finger and with only one hand. For example, you can tap under your right eye and, later in the tapping, under your left arm. You should also remove your watch and bracelets, as that will interfere with your use of the wrist meridian tapping. If your problem or issue resolves completely, you are done with the tapping. And the beautiful thing about doing affirmations is that you can radically improve the effectiveness with EFT. You can begin by looking in the mirror and doing your EFT affirmations and you can tap that in on all the EFT points. Then you will want to use EFT on the negative thought that comes up and create a positive opposite. Remember to say your statements with great enthusiasm and all the emotions you can muster. Once you have written the fear though down, you can turn it around to a positive affirmation and tap it in with EFT. Choose the thoughts that are nurturous and supportive for you. The thoughts you think and the words you say are constantly creating your future. The more positive and specific you are the better the choice will be.

*Willpower* is not what you need, and it won’t sustain you. The brain remembers and stores everything that happens to you. Mindless eating is the exact opposite of what you want when it comes to losing weight. See if you can find all the different EFT tapping benefits that Missy is experiencing! Over time, the amount and type of foods that you choose makes a difference in your weight. But if it bothers you to step on the scale, then you are missing out on valuable feedback and you may have to desensitize yourself to it. Before you step on the scale, tap for anxiety and use this affirmation: Weight issues can make you want to both isolate yourself and *insulate* yourself from a world that can be harsh. When you deal with your emotions and stress, often the numbers on the scale are the last things to change. Luckily, emotional eating coping skills are a set of skills you can learn, practice and improve over time.
It is a powerful way to discover what might be de-motivating us with our goals at best and absolutely stopping us in our tracks at the worst. It is like having our foot on the gas and the brake at the same time! The exercise below is one way to discover where your foot may be on the brake and begin to release it. You can state the amount of weight you want to lose, how you want to feel and what your life will look like to you when you get there for example. These often take the form of “yeah, but…” and may be significant internal blocks or obstacles to reaching your goal. Common examples may take some form of the following: “Yeah, but I won’t be able to maintain my weight loss, or all I have to do to get there…”, “I can’t picture being at my goal weight, I have so far to go”, “It will take too much work and I’m too tired or overwhelmed already”, “I haven’t been able to do it before, so why now”, “I’ll feel deprived and like I have to eat foods I don’t want to eat.”etc. (you name the food or habit)”, “If I lose weight, others will be jealous or try to sabotage me”, “I don’t want to eat differently than (my spouse, my colleagues, my friends, my family, etc)”, “I have too much to do and am too busy, can’t make time for one more thing in my schedule”, “I can’t or don’t know how to make myself a priority.” Here is a tapping script for some of the most common beliefs that I’ve worked with recently in my class Healing Subconscious Blocks to Weight Loss and from the above example for this exercise: Side of the hand: “even though I feel I have too much to do, I’m overwhelmed and I’m tired… I can’t fit another thing in my schedule and it will be too much work… Top of head: This will just be too hard and I can’t do it. Under eye: What if it could even be uplifting and fun?
The EFT Tapping Points. This point is abbreviated SE for Side of the Eye. This point is abbreviated UE for Under the Eye. This point is abbreviated UN for Under the Nose. This point is abbreviated UA for Under the Arm. For example, during the same round of The EFT Tapping Basic Recipe, you can tap the "karate chop" point on your left hand and the eyebrow point on the right side of your body. This is so you can cover a larger area and thereby insure that your Tapping covers the correct point. This becomes the target at which you "aim" the EFT Tapping Basic Recipe. You might say, "Even though I overeat when I am tired, I deeply and completely accept myself." Repeat this statement three times as you tap the point below your pinky finger. Take a deep breath and continue through the tapping points, noting if your emotional pain rating lowers.
