My 30 Day Juice Fast


     Today is the last day of my 30 day juice fast. The purpose of this blog has been to see what a full 30 day juice fast for weight loss is like for an average size person. I had read on the Internet that one lady similar in size and age to me lost 25 lbs. I have not lost that much, but I'm completely satisfied with the 15 lbs. I conclude that a two week juice fast for the average person is a great way to slim down fast for an event or just for one's health. After that, the rate I lost slowed down drastically. That is a unique feature, as many blogs I read were just a summary of the person's fast. As long as you drink the 100% natural juice, you have no cravings.      This juice fast has changed my perspective on food and nutrition so much. Intermittent Fasting for Weight Loss - Mama's Weeds


 Although it might sound like an eating disorder in the making, Intermittent Fasting is simply a different style of eating that is safe, effective and comes with a slew of health benefits (including fat loss) when done the right way. The Fast 5 recommends a daily 19 hour fast with a 5 hour “eating window” and declares that you can eat whatever you want during that 5 hour window – without going COMPLETELY crazy – but yes, you basically can eat whatever you want during that time.  I found that longer fasting windows (19 – 20 hours) were most effective when it came to weight loss, but too many days in a row of fasting for 19 hours would backfire on me and I would be overly hungry in the days that followed.  I eventually found that a 16 hour fast with an 8 hour eating window was effective and felt the most “normal” to me.  During that time I came to find that I really liked this way of eating, and especially the way it allowed me to effortlessly maintain my weight once the fat loss was done.  An 8 – 10 hour eating window with a 14 – 16 hour fasting window works very well for me and feels very normal. If you find that you’re really struggling with IF, it might make the most sense to take a step back and look at foods you choose to eat and why, then return to IF when you’ve got healthier eating habits in place.  Intermittent Fasting becomes MUCH easier when you have metabolically adapted to burning your own body fat for fuel and have gotten off the blood sugar rollercoaster that comes with eating a diet that is heavy in refined carbohydrates and high in sugar.  And while IF makes the calorie restriction necessary for weight loss easier and less noticeable, it is still possible to over do it and eat an too many calories during your eating window that halt your fat loss progress.  If you persist with patience and make adjustments to the foods you choose to eat, your body and brain truly do adapt. My start with Intermittent Fasting unexpectedly gave me some new perspective about  my relationship with food and all the reasons I eat that aren’t related to true hunger.  If you’re intrigued but concerned about the safety of IF, do your homework and see for yourself that when Intermittent Fasting is done properly it can be very safe, as well as super effective at helping you reach your weight loss goals.

I too had gastric bypass.mine was very successful regarding weight loss (287 lbs down at my lowest weight), but as the years have passed I have started to put on a little more weight than I'd like to, and I'm feeling generally yucky. I know that after the surgery I fasted and felt horrible after surgery because I could not eat anything but protein shakes. I am on my 7th day of the reboot and doing great. I had my surgery 13 years ago and I've gained almost all of my weight back. The fiber in the fruits and vegetables stop you from dumping. 40 Day Juice Fast? Done! - Mama's Weeds


Zak has completed his personal juice fast challenge of consuming nothing but fresh fruit and vegetable juice for 40 days straight.  The produce drawer in the fridge is less packed, his pants are looser and I made coffee for both of us this morning. Here he is at the start of his fast, 40 long days ago. You can find  more photos of his progression in the 4 weeks update , and some frequently asked questions in the 2 week update  as well. About two weeks into the fast he got a canker sore that was painful and slow to heal.  We initially guessed it was from drinking so much citrus, so he cut back on the lemons, limes and oranges in his juice.  The juicer is a pain to wash but is much easier to clean before the juice and fiber has time to dry. And with that, Zak’s juice fast has come to an end.  He’ll gladly share about his experience and respond to you on or off the blog. Through juicing the pain has decreased significantly, and I have started walking more, but I know that I need to do more. I have been authorized to have  a scope done on my knee to clean up scar tissue and I am hoping that will help  alleviate the residual pain that I am feeling. Before Bariatric surgery, and now she has skin hanging everywhere. Although there is plenty of documentation shown that individuals on a RAW food diet will have their skin suck up and shrink to their natural body mold with very little (if at all) hanging skin. Those that did have some, were able to fill the skin through building muscle mass. The studies show that a RAW food diet helps the skin come alive and bring forth its natural elastic ability back to life.  Raw food diets may help your organs rejuvenate back to when we were children and most people don’t know that our skin is the largest organ of our body. I spoke to Victoria Boutenko the other day and she explained that what she has learned about skin shrinking during weight loss is, that the Chlorophyll in the greens and especially from fresh wheatgrass juice, can be responsible. I have witnessed the power of juice through my own journey and believe that continuing to feed my body the nutrients that it needs along with support from exercise will rid me of my jiggly bits. I shared the video with a good friend who suffers from the same condition, and suggested that she give the 40 day juice fast a try. My general philosophy is that you juice to improve overall health, to cure cravings, to heal the body, and get a handle on your eating habits.
