Is Zumba good for weight loss? I also just want to be more fit in general :) Lately, I've been eating way healthier! Maybe not completely, since I still do have a cheat meal every week or. I also just want to be more fit in general :) Maybe not completely, since I still do have a cheat meal every week or so, but I've gotten waaaaay better! For exercise, I do it everyday :) I usually do intense cardio one day then toning the next, and repeat, working different muscle groups. I'm thinking of doing Zumba to make it more fun 2 days a week (since those are to only class times available at my gym) If I really like it then I'm going to see if I can do it more often. Anyway, is Zumba good for losing that last 10 pounds (which is all I really need to lose, I'm 127 and want to get down to 117 pounds) and toning up? I don't really need to see a difference on the scale, since I'm trying to burn the fat and build muscle, and, well, muscle weight : P I mainly want to get rid of the stomach fat and tone up! Is Zumba good for that if I do it often?

Classes are taught by certified Zumba instructors in more than 200,000 locations throughout the world, including cruise ships, community centres and nightclubs. There are also spin-offs, including Aqua Zumba (in the pool), Zumba Sentao (as far as I can tell, this is Musical Chairs) and Zumba Toning (waving batons around). There is even Zumba Kids and Zumbini, a class for parents and toddlers to do together. Zumba claims to hone strength and burn fat but, although my jaw definitely ached from all that smiling, to me it was little more than a boogie in a bright space with an unforgettable feel-good factor. I’m hardly surprised to discover that many people report a reduction in stress and depression after attending regular Zumba classes. If I can put my pride in my pocket and give Zumba a go then trust me, anyone can.
How effective is Zumba in weight-loss and toning? How long and how intense would you be working out @Kyra? As to how effective it is, that really depends on the length and intensity of your workout. There is a lot of movement to it, and if you are actually working hard (and sweating), then you are burning off calories. That means, assuming you watch your diet as well, you will lose weight and achieve muscle tone. Don't come home from a class and gorge on ice cream or you will see no weight loss (and probably the opposite). Keep those three things in mind, and make sure you're working out at the proper intensity level, and you will see the changes you are looking for. I do a lot of salsa and other latin dances which Zumba is based on.
