How do you calculate the percentage gain or loss on an investment? Take amount that you have gained on the investment and divide it by the amount invested. To calculate the gain, take the price for which you sold the investment and subtract from it the price that you initially paid for it. Now that you have your gain, divide the gain by the original amount of the investment. If the percentage is negative, resulting from the market value being lower than the book value, you have lost on your investment. If the percentage is positive, resulting from market value being greater than book value, you have gained on your investment. How to Calculate Your Caloric Needs and Lose Weight

How to Calculate Your Caloric Needs and Lose Weight. Do you know how many calories you should eat if you want to lose weight? To estimate how many calories you should consume  to maintain your weight, you'll need to do a little math. If you are sedentary or mostly sedentary multiply your BMR by 1.0-1.39  If you are lightly active (you do 30-60 minutes of easy physical activity each day), multiply your BMR by 1.4-1.59. If you are moderately active (you do 60 minutes of moderate physical activity each day) multiply your BMR by 1.6-1.89. If you are very active multiply your BMR by 1.9-2.5.  The result of this formula will be a good estimate of the number of calories you can eat every day to maintain your current weight. In order to lose weight, you must eat fewer calories than your body needs so that your body burns fat for fuel.  So how do you know how many calories to cut?  The number depends on how quickly you want to lose weight. For every 3,500 calories you cut, you are likely to lose about one pound.  So, if you cut 500 calories per day, you should lose about one pound per week. Your weight loss will vary from week to week and at times you may even gain a little weight.

Using excel to calculate weights. - Forums @ The Digital Fix

Ok here's one for all you excel gurus - I've been asked to create a spreadsheet keeping track of weight loss, however the lady in question would like it to read in stone and pounds as that's what she's used to. Anyone got any bright ideas how I can create a simple table (and graphs thereafter) which will read the weight correctly (ie 11.10 (for 11 stone 10 pounds) and still be functional as a number so I can use it in formula to compare to targets etc. I've tried the obvious, using IF formula, stone and pounds in seperate cells etc, but nothing provides enough functionality. I need to be able to track the following data: You can use the fraction option to format your cells. 1) You need to enter data such "11 stone 10 pounds" as "11 10/14" (where the space is important). 2) You can format your data to show this (rather than the decimal version of the fraction) by selecting the custom format and setting it to "# ?/14" (without the quotes, obviously). I don't suppose there is any way I can use that formula to give the read out without the /14 after it (ie 11 10 for 11 stone 10 pounds)? If you store all the data in lbs, then you could display it using e.g. That gives a perfect display of the data however it complicates things (as far as I can see) in a couple of ways. It requires having the data in a seperate field to the result (ie refering the cell with that formula back to a different call with the weight in lbs in), and also the resultant output is no longer a number therefore any fields calculated from this figure would also require being refered back to a different field. Target weight is filled out at the start, actually weight on a weekly basis, then variance and loss/gain calculated using simple formulas (I've stuck an IF in there too so when the 'actual' field is empty it doesn't give false results '=IF(C 34> 9, B 34-C 34, IF(C 34.

How to Calculate Percentage Change. If you want to calculate the percentage change between value a and value b, this is done using the formula: Percentage change = ( b - a ) / a. Percentage change = ( $1,750 - $1,250 ) / $1,250. As in the previous example, in order to get the result displayed as a percentage, it is necessary to set cell B 3 to have percentage formatting . It is the formatting of a cell that makes the underlying decimal value appear as a percentage. You can change a cell's formatting to display percentages in one of the following ways: Method 1 - Percentage Formatting Through the Ribbon Options. The easiest way to change cell formatting is to select the cell(s) to be formatted and then select the percentage button from the 'Number' group on the Home tab of the Excel ribbon (see below): Method 2 - Percentage Formatting In Excel 2003.
