I have been reading over what it says for the diabetic diet food pyramid and I’m more impressed with this than I am with the standard “plate” (formerly the pyramid) that was taught to me in school for eating all of the food groups and staying healthy. This gives very clear and specific directions as to what is meant regarding the way that food should be consumed in order to be able to maintain proper nutrition and I have a lot of respect for that. This is a very fair strategy because it takes into consideration that people aren’t perfect and they don’t just want to eat health foods all the time. I think that this food pyramid is for diabetics what the standard pyramid/plate is for people who don’t have this special food need. It’s really great that they’ve come up with a separate food pyramid designed for people with diabetes because the needs of someone who has type 1 or type 2 are different from what people without the condition need. If you have the condition and then you go and follow the typical food pyramid you could really end up doing a lot of damage to yourself considering the way that the carbs are laid out in that plan.
